Chandigarh, Sep 19 (UNI) In a master stroke, Congress party on Sunday evening announced three time MLA from Chamkaur Sahib Charanjit Singh Channi as the new Chief Minister of Punjab, a day after miffed Capt Amarinder Singh resigned.
Channi's name was announced by AICC general secretary Harish Rawat, Congress in-charge of Punjab in a tweet this evening. He is first scheduled caste chief minister declared by Congress high command.
Channi was Technical Educational and Industrial Training Minister in the Captain government. Previously, he was the Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha from 2015 to 2016.
