Students appear for Open Book Examination

Mysuru, Aug 7(UNI) Over 150 students of Nrupatunga Kannada School wrote 'Open Book Examination' held as experiment in the city on Tuesday.
Kannada Vikasa Shaikshanika Samajika Samskruthika Samste took the initiative to conduct the Open Book Examination.
“The experimental Open Book Examinations were held for students from Class 5 to 10 for one hour. Subjects including Kannada, English, Hindi, Science and Social Science were considered for the Open Book exams while Mathematics was excluded,” said Secretary of the Kannada Vikasa Shaikshanika Samajika Samskruthika Samste Sa Ra Sudarshan.
The new Open Book Examinations were held to know the pros and cons of introducing the Open Book Examinations at all schools in the State.
Recently Karnataka Minister for Primary and Secondary Education N Mahesh had expressed his desire to introduce the Open Book Examinations in schools.
Now, after the examinations, the school will prepare a detailed report and submit it to the government for consideration and evolve a plan to ease the burden on students.
Open Book Exams would allow students to take notes, text book and resource materials into an examination hall. Students would be able to consult the material when answering questions, which are structured to test their understanding of concepts rather than merely the ability to memorise facts and figures.
The concept of Open Book Examination has been tried to overcome the deficiencies of traditional written examinations, which often tend to encourage rote learning and superficial application of knowledge
