Doctors at a hospital kept their calm to save life of a patient during strong earthquake

Srinagar, Mar 22 (UNI) When people were running for their lives in the Valley following a massive earthquake in the neighboring Afghanistan and Pakistan region, the doctors at a hospital in South Kashmir kept their calm to save the life of a patient despite fear.
Dr Shabeena Shah, a Gynaecologist, was part of a team performing a caesarean on a pregnant lady at Bijbehara government hospital when tremors rattled the valley last night.
A video of the surgery, which has gone viral, shows doctors continue with the emergency surgery without blinking an eye.
“Fear is natural but the patient's life was most important for the whole team present in the operation theater at that moment”, Dr Shabeena told media persons on Wednesday.
As soon as a major earthquake rattled the Kashmir valley last night with the buildings starting to shake and people were running for their safety, Dr Sabeena and her team were busy in Operation Theater performing LSCS to a patient at Bijbehara hospital.
Reciting the Quranic verses at the time of strong tremors in the operation theater with a patient lying on the table, Dr Shabeena said that fear is natural but the patient's life was more important for the whole team present at that moment.
Kashmir valley with northern parts of India and Afghanistan, Pakistan and other countries experienced major earthquakes last night forcing people to come out from their houses for safety.
She said “the recent tragedy that occurred in Turkey where an earthquake destroyed cities and killed thousands of people abruptly strikes in my mind and I thought Allah forbid it should not be the similar one”.
Dr Shabeena said that when we felt tremors we thought that a similar tragedy may occur here also but we did not halt the operation procedure.
She and her team carried forward the procedure despite the light in the operation theater going off for a few minutes during the tremors but they kept their wits active all the time during the procedure.
“Our main priority is to treat patients. The patient was on the operation table and we were in a forward stage of operation”, she said and added “thanks to the almighty both mother and child were fine”.
She said we could not leave the patient in such a situation.
Dr Shah said “It was a happy moment for the whole team who participated in the operation and we succeeded in saving both the lives of mother and child during this tough period”.
She said when one gets success mere things look like big rewards for the person.
