Congress leader demands high-level inquiry into Aurangabad clashes,

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, May 16 (UNI) Senior Congress leader and
member of Rajya Sabha, Hussain Dalwai, on Wednesday demanded that a
high-level inquiry should be conducted into the clashes between two
groups on Friday and stern action should be taken against the
culprits for their involvement in riots as well as against policemen
for allegedly not acting against the rioters.
Talking to reporters after visiting the affected parts of the city
and meeting the kins of the deceased who were killed in the riots,
he claimed that the riot was pre-planned and the role of police
during the riots was suspicious, he said.
The Congress leader alleged that a Shiv Sena leader Lacchu Pahelwan,
who extorts money (hafta) from street-side vendors, was responsible
for the incident along with local Shiv Sena MP Chandrakant Khaire,
who made provocative speeches during the clashes.
"Why are not police arresting them?," he questioned.
In the name of combing operation, police forcibly entered the houses
of a particular religious community and badly beaten the family
persons while using objectionable language, he alleged.
Targetting both Shiv Sena and BJP, Mr Dalwai claimed that due to
internal differences between the two parties, the state government
was not appointing a capable city police commissioner despite
Aurangabad being a sensitive city in the state.
"Whenever the elections are round the corner, these parties try to
create communal tension for winning the elections," he claimed.
Pointing that the Sena and BJP have been in power in Aurangabad
Municipal Corporation since last 25 years, he alleged that instead
of developing the city, they were trying to create unrest and
Due to their politics, all the developmental works in city have come
to a standstill, he further alleged.
The Congress leader demanded that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis,
who holds the Home portfolio, should visit the city and should
announce compensation to the next kin of two deceased persons as
well as to those whose shops, houses and vehicles were destroyed in
the arson.
Talking about AIMIM party, he said that AIMIM was a communal force
like Shiv Sena and BJP, he added.
Mr Dalwai said that he would raise this issue in parliament during
the forthcoming session.
He appealed the people to maintain peace and calm in city.
