BJP asks CEO to take action against TPCC Chief for Model Code violation

Hyderabad, Oct 30 (UNI) Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday urged State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Rajat Kumar to take action against TPCC chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy for gross violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), by using religion to propagate his party and seek votes.
Talking to reporters after lodging a complaint with the EC, along with a team at the Secretariat, BJP National Executive Member N Indrasena Reddy alleged that Mr Kumar was provoking the religious and regional sentiments and luring the voters of Christian community.
The MCC categorically says, ''No party or candidate would include in any activity, which may aggravate existing differences or create mutual hatred or cause tension between different castes and communities religious or linguistic,'' Mr Reddy noted.
He said Mr Kumar, during his speech on Monday, had violated the MCC by appealing to the Christians to support him and end the Modi rule at the Centre. He further promised SC status to the Christians and incentives for Jerusalem trip, on the lines of Haj trips for Muslims and others, after the party comes to power.
He expressed displeasure at the EC for not taking suo motu cognisance of reports in media, in this regard.
''We have submitted a complaint to Rajat Kumar and urged him to take necessary action against the TPCC Chief,'' he said.
He expressed hope that EC will respond to the complaint at the earliest and take immediate action against Mr Kumar for indulging in religion-based propaganda, which is a violation of MCC.
