VS polls: Haryana police to crack down wanted criminals

Chandigarh, Aug 22 (UNI) With a view to ensure smooth conduct of the forthcoming Vidhan Sabha elections, Haryana Police is all set to launch a crackdown on wanted criminals and notorious elements in the state, a senior police officer confirmed on Thursday.
According to Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Navdeep Singh Virk, the absconding criminals could be one of the biggest challenges for Police, in conducting free and fair elections.
Police would launch a one-and-a-half month-long special drive, beginning from August 26, to arrest criminals and unearth illicit arms, liquor and narcotic substances, throughout the state.
He said DGP Manoj Yadav directed all the Commissioners of Police and the District Superintendents of Police, to nail down the warrantees, other criminals and notorious elements in their respective areas. This would help in keeping the crime under check and put the criminals behind bars.
The DGP would personally monitor the progress of the campaign, added Mr Virk.
He informed that the special drive would focus on arrest of proclaimed offenders, bail jumpers, parole or furlough jumpers, most-wanted criminals and convicts, who have not surrendered, after rejection of their appeals by different courts, bad characters, unearthing of illicit arms, seizure of illicit liquor and narcotics substances and execution of non-bailable warrants.
