Baramulla, Mar 22 (UNI) Two Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militants, including a Pakistani national, were killed by security forces during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Kreeri area of this north Kashmir district, a police spokesman said on Friday.
He said people are advised not to venture in the area.
Meanwhile, mobile internet in the area has been snapped as a precautionary measure to prevent rumours.
The Spokesman said on a specific information about the presence of militants, Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police, CRPF and Rashtriya Rifles (RR) launched a joint search operation at Kreeri in Baramulla on Thursday.
All the exit points were sealed and house-to-house searches launched, he said adding when the security forces reached a particular area in the village, militants hiding there opened indiscriminate fire with automatic weapons.
Security forces also retaliated ensuing in an encounter, he said, adding that two militants of JeM were killed.
He said one of slain militants has been identified as Aamir Rasool of Sopore. It is understood as second militant is a Pakistan national, he said.
He said according to police records, both the killed militants were affiliated with JeM and were wanted by law in a series of cases, including attack on security establishments and civilian atrocities.
They were involved in conspiring and executing many militant attacks in the area. Several militant crime cases were registered against them.
He said arms & ammunition, including AK 47 rifles, were recovered from the site of encounter. All these materials have been taken in the case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other cases.
Meanwhile, he said citizens are once again requested not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitised and cleared of all the explosives materials if any.
