Srinagar, Nov 10 (UNI) Two local militants of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) were killed on Saturday by security forces in an encounter which ensued during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Pulwama, where a shutdown was observed and mobile internet service has been suspended today.
On a tip off about the presence of militants at village Tikken in south Kashmir district of Pulwama, troops of Army, Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint search operation this morning.
As the security forces were sealing the area, militants opened fire with automatic weapons triggering an encounter.
Two HM militants identified as Wajjid-ul-Islam and Liqaqat Wani were killed, they said adding arms and ammunition and incriminating material were recovered from the slain militants.
He said to avoid any civilian killings or injury, citizens are once again requested not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosives materials if any".
The authorities suspended internet mobile service in Pulwama, where a spontaneous strike was observed against the militant killing. Business and other activities remained shut and traffic was also off the roads. Work was also affected in government offices and educational institutions.
