Train service suspended between Srinagar & Baramulla

Srinagar, Jan 6 (UNI) The train service was suspended for security reasons between the summer capital, Srinagar and Baramulla in north Kashmir, where 53 civilians were killed in alleged security force firing on this day in 1993.
However, train service was normal in south Kashmir.
“All trains running on Srinagar-Badgam in the central Kashmir and Baramulla track have been suspended on Sunday for security reasons,” a railway official told UNI.
The decision to suspend the train service was taken on the advice of local authorities and police in view of apprehension of trouble on 26th death anniversary of 53 civilians, who were allegedly killed in security force firing in Sopore in Baramulla on this day in 1993.
A large number of passengers who had reached to different railway station in north Kashmir and Srinagar were disappointed after being informed about the suspension of the train service. The agitated passengers said there was no strike call from any organisation and suspension of the train service was unjustified.
However, railway official said they are acting on the advice of local administration since security and safety of the passengers was necessary.
Meanwhile, trains were running normally on Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region.
