Tewari seeks withdrawal of notification extending BSF jurisdiction in Punjab

Mohali, Dec 8 (UNI) Shri Anandpur Sahib MP and Congress National Spokesperson Manish Tewari on Wednesday sought the withdrawal of the union government notification extending the jurisdiction of the Border Security Force (BSF) in Punjab up to 50 kilometers inside the international border.
Speaking during the Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha today, Tewari said, the law and order according to the Constitution of India was a state subject and allowing the BSF 50 kms deep inside Punjab amounted to assault on the federal structure of the country.
The Congress MP said the Punjab Vidhan Sabha had already passed a resolution against the extended jurisdiction. He said, accordingly the government of India must withdraw the notification to extend the jurisdiction without taking the concerned state government into confidence.
