Rameswaram, Aug 18 (UNI) The Sri Lankan Navy allegedly chased away hundreds of Indian fishermen, when they were fishing on high seas near the controversial Katchatheevu Islet, the fishermen said on Sunday.
The affected fishermen, who returned to Rameswaram fishing jetty told newspersons that the Sri Lankan Naval men, who came on fast patrol crafts encircled a number of Indian fishing boats, destroyed GPS gadgets and snapped the fishing nets cast on the sea.
'The Sri Lankan Naval personnel also warned us to leave the zone, otherwise face dire consequences. Fearing arrest, we have retreated from the zone with huge loss', the fishermen said.
