Balrampur, Jan 5 (UNI) Samajwadi Party leader and former chairman Nagar Panchayat Tulsipur, Firoz Pappu was murdered by unknown assailants late on Tuesday night, police said on Wednesday.

Police sources said on Wednesday that former chairman Firoz Pappu(41), husband of Tulsipur Nagar Panchayat chairperson Kahkashan, was returning home from Jarwa when unknown miscreants attacked him with sharp edged weapons and injured him on his neck and forehead. He was taken to the hospital in a serious condition where the doctors declared him brought dead, police said.

As soon as the news of the murder spread, his supporters gathered on the streets and started protesting demanding the arrest of the attackers.

SP Hemant Kutiyal reached the spot and persuaded the protesters to disperse and sent the dead body to the mortuary for post-mortem, assuring them of arresting the miscreants soon.

As the tension in the area grew, additional police force was deployed in the entire region.

Police said that several teams have been formed to arrest the accused.
