SL Navy apprehends 10 Indian fishermen, trawler

Nagapattinam, Nov 16 (UNI) The Sri Lankan Maritime forces arrested 10 Indian fishermen and confiscated their mechanized fishing trawler for allegedly poaching in the territorial waters of the Island nation, early today.
State fisheries department officials said the fishermen hailing from Akkarapettai Coastal Hamlet in Nagapattinam district were arrested by a Fast Attack Craft attached to the Northern Naval Command of Lankan Navy, when they were fishing on the high seas North off Point Pedro Lighthouse.
The apprehended fishermen, trawler and fishing gear were taken to the Sri Lankan Naval Base “Uttara” in Kankesanthurai and handed over to the Assistant Fisheries Director of Fisheries, Jaffna for onward legal action.
