SCR bags 4 National Awards in Energy Management - 2019

Hyderabad, Sep 20 (UNI) South Central Railway (SCR) received four National Awards from Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for the year 2019 for adopting various energy conservation measures on its jurisdiction.

The zone is recipient of highest number of awards among all the zonal railways and central government organizations in building sector which participated in the competition, an SCR statement here said on Friday.

Confederation of Indian Industry is the prestigious body delivering expertise in the arena of energy conservation. In order to have competitive spirit among the stake holders on energy conservation measures, CII conducting competition in various sectors of Indian Industries and also honoring them with awards during their annual summits.

The objectives of the Energy Efficiency Summit are to Facilitate Indian industry to improve Energy Efficiency on a continuous basis and help them in achieving the target under the National Mission on Enhanced Energy Efficiency.

For the first time South Central Railway participated in this competition in the buildings category and adjudged with four awards by CII such as Excellent Energy Efficient award for Rail Nilayam (Administrative building of Zonal Headquarters) and Secunderabad Railway station, in addition Energy Efficiency award for Lekha Bhavan (Administrative building Zonal finance and accounts) and Sanchalan Bhavan (Administrative building of Secunderabad Division).

These awards were presented on September 18, 2019 during the CII annual summit conducted at Hyderabad.

It has made possible due to implementation of various energy conservation measures such as implementation of online solar energy monitoring, use of energy efficient LED lights, BLDC fans, invertor AC units in place of old AC units and use of occupancy/motion sensors.

CII has also appreciated the efforts of the zone to create awareness among the staff, rail users and stake holders about the importance of energy conservation and also conducting seminars covering the entire zone.

All these efforts have resulted in achieving the best Energy Performance Index (EPI), which is key parameter for judging the awards. The EPI recorded are Lekha Bhavan is 12.71 kWh/sqm, Secunderabad Railway station is 25.92 kWh/sqm, Sanchalan Bhavan is 34.96 kWh/sqm and Rail Nilayam is 40.42 kWh/sqm as against National bench mark of 86 kWh/sqm.

SCR General Manager Gajanan Mallya expressed his happiness for receiving highest number for awards in Energy Conservation from CII. He appreciated the efforts of officers and staff for attaining laurels to the organization and advised to continue the similar standard methodological approaches in maintenance of energy conservation methods.
