Rajiv Gandhi death anniversary: UP police pays tribute to former Prime Minister

Lucknow, May 21 (UNI) With Congress leaders remembering the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 27th death anniversary, the Uttar Pradesh police officials on Monday pledged to fight subversive forces to mark the Day.
In Lucknow, DGP OP Singh gave oath to all the policemen posted in his office, asking them that they will work to maintain unity and peace in the country and will not even hesitate to sacrifice their lives while fighting with subversive forces. Every year the security forces observed the day as `Anti-Terrorism Day’ throughout the country and marked it by taking a pledge to fight the subversive forces.
The Day is also observed to generate awareness in the country among all sections of people, about the danger of terrorism and violence and its effect on the people, society and the country as a whole. It was on this day in 1991 that former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi fell to the designs of terrorists.
