Jhalawar, Nov 27 (UNI) Despite BJP bagging Khanpur seat in Rajasthan since 2003, replicating its victory this time is going to be an uphill climb.
Though Khanpur comes under Jhalawar district which is considered as state Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje's strong bastion, electorate in Khanpur Assembly is in no mood to give another chance to BJP’s sitting legislator Narendra Singh Nagar.
'For us, political parties do not matter. The chief minister is above everything in Jhalawar,' a group of 5-6 locals, who are in their 40s, said while sipping tea at Jhalawar bus stand.
But, when asked about the sitting MLA, they said after winning the election in 2013, he never visited the constituency. This time, voters are annoyed with him. This is the reason, he is facing protest wherever he goes for seeking votes.
Mahaveer, a hotelier said, 'We want change in our constituency. Till now, we are sure that we will not give our votes to Mr Nagar. There is still two weeks left so we have enough time to ponder over it.”
As per Rajasthan Election Commission data, Khanpur has a total electorate of 2,27,503 including 1.17 lakh males and 1.11 lakh females. There are eight candidates in the fray. Out of them, only Congress and the BJP seem to be in fight.
The Congress has fielded Suresh Gurjar as its candidate.
In 2013, Mr Nagar defeated Congress’ Sanjay Gurjar with a margin of 30,956. The BJP legislation had secured 73,995 votes while Mr Gurjar had got 42,999 votes.
In 2008, BJP’s Anil Kumar won this seat by 4,955 votes.
The state will go to polls on December 7.
