Rahul calls on Congress workers to beware masses of 'Chor Chowkidar'

Lucknow, Feb 11 (UNI) Announcing that Congress will fight with all force to form government in Uttar Pradesh, AICC president Rahul Gandhi on Monday called on the grassroot workers of the party to spread the message of 'Chowkidar Chor Hai'.
He clearly said that Congress will promote the ground level workers and warned that the leaders who travel by choppers, will not be promoted at any cost.

However, during the entire five-hour-long road show and later during the street corner meetings, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra or any other leader refused to speak.
Mr Gandhi, addressing the workers at the state party office after the end of the road show, attacked the Prime Minister on Rafale deal. He even raised the slogan of Chowkidar Chor Hai from the dais.
Clarifying on the SP-BSP alliance, he said "Congress will fight with full force on its own ideology, to change the politics of UP and the country.
"I have all respect for Mayawatijee and Akhikesh Yadav, but our fight will continue on our own platform and ideology, " he said.
Calling upon the party's grassroot level workers to strengthen the base at the village level, he said people of the country should be made aware of the corruption done by BJP government and how a 'Chowkidar has turned into a Chor'.
Reiterating his attack on Mr Modi over the Rafale aircraft deal, the Congress president said, "The PM should reply on the questions over corruption in the deal and why Rs 30,000 crore were benefited to the Anil Ambani group."
Mr Gandhi also imitated PM, saying that Mr Modi, who earlier exerted confidence with his 56-inch chest, has now turned defensive, by bowing head and lowering his voice to address the people, after the Rafale scam came into light.
During the entire address of her elder brother, Ms Vadra kept on smiling, along with with her colleague Mr Scindia and UP Congress president Raj Babbar.
Earlier during the road show, amid slogan of chowkidal chor hai, Mr Gandhi declared that the party will play on the front foot in Uttar Pradesh, with an aim to form a government of Congress ideology.
In his short, but pointed speech, which lasted for less than four minutes, first at Lalbagh and then at Hazratganj, Mr Gandhi said that the party's target is no doubt Lok Sabha elections, but the main aim is to form a government in Uttar Pradesh.
''Uttar Pradesh is the heart of the country. I have appointed Priyanka and Scindia ji (Jyoti Raje) as Secretaries. I have asked them to fight against the injustice prevailing in Uttar Pradesh,'' he said.
''Chowkidar ne paisa chori kiya (Chowkidar has stolen people's money). Read The Hindu newspaper, where it has written how PM Office has carried out a parallel negotiation to extend business relief to his friend Anil Ambani who earned Rs 30,000 crore from the deal,” Congress president said.
Hailing UP, he said the state was the 'center' or 'heart' of the nation.
Mr Gandhi said that he had put Ms Priyanka and Mr Jyotiraditya Scindia as the in-charge of the state and asked them to fight against the 'years of injustice' prevailing in UP.
Giving greater significance to the state, he said that apart from the Lok Sabha, the party's major goal was to form a Congress party government in the UP Vidhan Sabha.
Thanking the party workers and the Lucknow public for extending a warm welcome, Mr Gandhi said that the party would play on the 'forefront' and not on the 'backfoot.'
He also added that the Priyanka Gandhi, Mr Scindia and he himself will not rest until a government for the poor, youth and the farmers was formed in the state.
During the road show Rahul Gandhi also held a cardboard cut-out of Rafale jet and showed it to the crowd, reminding people about the corruption of the BJP-led government at the Centre.
The security personnel was tizzy when electric wires obstructed the road show at Burlington Crossing when the bus in which Priyanka ,Rahul were travelling had to shift to a SUV.
The trio of Ms Vadra, Mr Gandhi and Jyotiraditya Scindia attracted huge crowd during their 14- kms road show.
Initially, Rahul allowed his sister, who has been appointed as the in-charge of Eastern UP, to hold the centrestage, when the roadshow started from Amausi airport. Later, the three leaders stood together as the makeshift bus crawled through the multitude of people.
After Priyanka sat atop the SUV, the security personnel had a hard time in protecting the VVIPs, when youth in large numbers came too close, to shake hands with the leaders.
After the roadshow and a brief interaction with the party workers and leaders at the state headquarters, Mr Gandhi left for the airport to return to Delhi, while Ms Vadra and Mr Scindia went to a hotel for night stay.
They will hold meeting with leaders of all 80 Lok Sabha constituencies separately, during their three-day stay, from Tuesday.
