Punjab: PFUCTO members start indefinite hunger strike against de-linking of teachers' pay scales from UGC

Chandigarh, Nov 30 (UNI) Nearly 2000 teachers under the Punjab Federation of University and College Teachers Organisations (PFUCTO) on Tuesday staged a rally here and marched towards the residence of Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, demanding immediate implementation of revised UGC Pay Scales and withdrawal of the Punjab government's decision to de-link the scales of teachers of universities and colleges from UGC.
Hundreds of men and women courted arrest during the agitation.
PFUCTO has been protesting on these issues for a long time and had earlier been on a chain fast for 45 days, which was suspended after Education Minister Pargat Singh accepted their demands by offering ceremonial juice to the fasting personnel on October 19.
