Protesters continue anti-CAA stir for 4th day in Madurai

Madurai, Feb 17 (UNI) A sit-in agitation by hundreds of men and women, predominantly from the Muslim community against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the proposed National Register of Citizens (NRC) and National Population Register (NPR) at Jinnah Grounds in Mahaboopalayam here, on the lines of the “Shaheen Bagh” protest in New Delhi, entered the fourth consecutive day on Monday.
The protest which began on Friday night, following police lathicharge against anti-CAA protesters at Chennai, is continuing day and night with the protesters demanding Tamil Nadu government to pass a resolution in the legislative assembly against the CAA and to take stern action against police personnel.
The agitators, affiliated to Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamath (TNTJ), Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam (TMMK), Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (MMK), United Muslim Jamaath and other Islamic outfits were firm to continue their protest until a resolution against the CAA is passed in the ongoing assembly session.
