Protection and promotion of education sector is vital: Governor

Hyderabad, Jul 4 (UNI) “Education sector is very vital for the country and its protection and promotion in these pandemic times is crucial,” said Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan.
She said that quality education and employability skills are important to ensure a better future for our youth.
“Though the Covid-19 pandemic has affected every sector including the education, we need to protect the education sector through our concerted efforts,” she added.
The Governor was participating as the chief guest at the inaugural of the global webinar on “Impact of Covid-19 on the future of higher education: Opportunities and Challenges,” jointly organised by the Lead India Foundation (USA) and the JNTU Hyderabad Alumni Association, a Raj Bhavan Communique here said on Saturday.
Referring to the response to the online classes and virtual learning methods, Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan stated that the students of the country greatly raised to the occasion and are well adapting to the new method of learning.

They are equally eager to utilise digital learning methods and want the online exams too.
Expressing her anguish over the non-availability of the internet access and the required gadgets to the students from underprivileged and downtrodden sections, the Governor stated that we must not deny them the education and we need to ensure digital learning to be more inclusive and accessible to all.
She said that for those who were left out of the online classes, some universities are now creating digital depositories and digital libraries for their students to access the lessons at any time.
The Governor pointed out that the Government of India under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is taking special initiatives to bring the digital platforms and digital teaching and learning methods in universities and colleges across the country.

“Education and learning have been given great importance in Indian culture and tradition and our students constitute around 20 per cent in international universities,” Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan added.
The global webinar coordinator Dr Hari Eppanapally of Lead India Foundation (USA), Telangana State IT Principal Secretary Jayesh Ranjan and a host of keynote speakers and guest speakers were present.

Tamil Nadu reports highest single day surge of 127 COVID-19 deaths, 5,860 fresh cases

Chennai, Aug 15 (UNI) Tamil Nadu on Saturday recorded the maximum number of COVID-19 related deaths on a single day at 127, pushing the toll to 5,641 while the cumulative tally of infections mounted to 3,32,105 as 5,860 more people testing positive with the virus.

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 15 (UNI) Kerala reported seven deaths due to COVID-19 on Saturday whereas 1,608 people tested positive for the virus, 803 patients have recovered from the disease and 14,891 patients are under treatment, Health Minister KK Shailaja said.
