Poor voter turnout marks GHMC polling in first six hours

Poor voter turnout marks GHMC polling in first six hours

Hyderabad, Dec 1 (UNI) The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation polling now underway is marked by poor voter turnout as a little over 18 per cent voting was recorded till 1300 hours ,on Tuesday.
Voter apathy was seen as in quite a few places the polling stations wore a near deserted look despite appeals by prominent people and authorities to the people to exercise their voting right during the past several days.
The fear over the contagious Coronavirus could be a reason for fewer people venturing out to exercise their franchise.
The polling in old Malakpet division was stopped due to discrepancies on ballot papers.
Tension prevailed at some poll-bound places following heated arguments and skirmishes with rival groups with the BJP workers protested that money was being distributed by the TRS workers.
In Kukatpally, BJP workers attacked the convoy of minister Puvvada Ajay charging that money was being taken in the car for distribution.
The polling which commenced at 0700 hours will close at 1800 hours.
The voting of votes cast in today's election will be taken up on December four and the result will be declared on the same day.
