Police files charge sheet in 'rat's murder case'

Badaun (UP), Apr 11 (UNI) The police has filed a 30-page charge sheet in the 'murder' of a rat in Budaun district here in Uttar Pradesh in which the accused can be punished for up to five years, police sources said here on Tuesday.
Police sources said that on November 25, Manoj Kumar, a potter and a resident of Mohalla Panwadi Chowk, tied a rat with a stone and threw it into the drain. "Vikendra Sharma, an animal lover and district president of People For Animal (PFA), who was passing by, jumped into the drain and took the rat out but it died after some time," they said.
Police sources said that after this ViKender filed a complaint against Manoj at Sadar Kotwali on which the police registered a case under sections of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. "The post mortem of the rat was conducted at the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Bareilly after the District Veterinary Officer expressed his inability," they said.
