Srinagar, Dec 24 (UNI) A jawan of Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) was killed and 34 others were injured, four of them critically, when a bus in which they were travelling skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge on Srinagar-Jammu national highway on Monday, official sources said.
They said a private bus, hired by ITBP, was on way to Jammu from Srinagar when it skidded off the road near Shaitan Nallah Digdol and fell into about 150 feet deep gorge this morning at 0800 hrs. Sources said over 40 ITBP personnel were travelling in the bus when it met with an accident.
A massive relief and rescue operation was immediately launched, they said one jawan has died and over 34 others were injured.
A senior police officer present near the spot said security forces, state police and Quick Reaction Team(QRT) besides locals immediately launched a joint rescue operation. The injured were rushed to hospital where the condition of four of them is stated to be critical.
We are airlifting the injured to hospital in Jammu region for specialized treatment, he said.
