Thane: COVID-19 patient vanishes from hospital, another dies due to negligence

Thane, Jul 6 (UNI) A 71-year-old disabled COVID-19 patient has been missing from the civic body's Global Hub Corona Hospital here since past five days, and strangely the facility was unaware about the disappearance till Sunday night, police said on Monday.

On June 29, the elderly man was shifted from the civic-run Kalwa Hospital to the Global Hub, which was recently inaugurated by CM Uddhav Thackeray.

At that time, the CM asserted that this 1,024-bedded Hospital will fulfill the Maharashtra government's resolve of not letting even one patient suffer or die as they would be provided best treatment.

However, the claims have now turned volte-face as the missing man's kin have complained that the Hospital continuously denied about knowing the victim's whereabouts since past four days.

On Sunday night, the Global Hub finally conceded that the patient has gone missing after which the family members lodged a complaint, stated Kapurbawdi Police Station SHO.

In another recent incident of hospital's negligence, which apparently claimed the life of a COVID-19 patient, a civic-run medical facility in Mira Bhayandar suburb did not admit the patient and instead left him under heavy downpour.

The wife of the deceased alleged that her husband was left untreated in rains despite the fact that he was suffering from high fever. After much ado, she managed to admit the victim to another hospital where he died.

Narrating the hospital's grave unempathetic behaviour to Assembly Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis, the dejected woman held the hospital responsible for her husband's death.

He assured her that an inquiry will be initiated into the matter.

In a third incident reported on Saturday, the civic officials apprehended a woman and her three sons as they were attempting to fly to Uttar Pradesh after testing COVID-19 positive.

Earlier, the woman's husband died of Corona hence they were asked to get hospitalised but they tried to overlook the medical protocol, an official told.
