139th birth anniversary celebrations of Umar Alisha conducted at Kakinada

Kakinada, Feb 28 (UNI) Speakers from different sections of society have paid rich tributes to the memory of the late Umar Alisha, sixth chief of the Sri Viswa Vignana, Vidya Adhyatmika Peetham, at a function held at the Peetham’s Kakinada branch at the Boat Club here on Wednesday to mark his 139th birth anniversary.
Nagarjuna, deputy director of the Information and Public Relations Department, who was the chief guest, has described the late Alisha as a great social reformer who strived for women’s liberation and empowerment and also a multifaceted genius.
He recalled the yeomen service rendered by Alisha as a freedom fighter, progressive writer, member of parliament, and, of all, a great human who fought for upholding human values. Ahmed Alisha, brother of the present chief of Peetham, who presided, said that apart from social service, the late Alisha has authored over fifty great books promoting communal harmony and universal brotherhood. Moreover, the late Alisha fought for women’s education and empowerment. Peetham convenor Peruri Suribabu said that the late Alisha was the sixth chief of the 552-year-old Peetham and preached religious harmony, giving religious discourses cutting across all barriers of caste, religion, and creed.
