Fire in Kerala Secretariat: Chennithala demands NIA probe

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 25 (UNI) Opposition leader in Kerala Assembly Ramesh Chennithala on Tuesday demanded a NIA (National Investigation Agency) probe into the fire that broke out at the protocol department of the State Government Secretariat.
Alleging a Government-level conspiracy to destroy evidence in connection with the diplomatic baggage gold smuggling case, the Opposition leader said a probe announced by the State Government in this regard was not acceptable.
Soon after the incident, Chief Secretary Dr Vishwas Mehta said the Government issued a GO directing a probe into the fire that broke out at the second floor of the North Block of the Secretariat. An investigation team consisting of Disaster Management Commissioner Kaushik and a crime branch team led by ADGP Manoj Abraham will probe the matter and they have been asked to submit their report within one week.
