Gold smuggling case takes a new turn after disclosure by woman that MLA having nexus with accused Rameez

Kozhikode, Oct 26 (UNI) The Diplomatic Gold smuggling case in Kerala has took a new turn after the disclosure by a woman that Koduvally MLA Karat Razak had close ties with the prime accused K T Rameez.
The disclosure by Soumya, wife of Sandeep Nair, another key accused in the gold smuggling case, had reported in a section of media on Monday.
Soumya had deposed before the Customs officials on July 8 stating she was told by her husband that the gold was smuggled for Koduvally Municipality Councillor Karat Faizal and Koduvally MLA Karat Razak.
The MLA was having close ties with K T Rameez, a prime accused in the diplomatic gold smuggling case, Soumya had deposed.
Earlier, Karat Faizal was questioned by the Customs on October 1.
He is suspected to be the kingpin in the case and had played a key role in the gold smuggling by investing heavily for the operations.
However, Karat Razak has denied all allegations levelled against him and said he had no links with either K T Rameez or any accused in the case.
Refuting the charges, the MLA said the disclosure was made by the wife of an accused and not by any accused.
“This is nothing but a political conspiracy to settle political scores. I have no connection with any of the accused”, Razak said.
A former IUML leader Karat Razak won the 2016 Assembly election as an LDF-independent.
Though his election was disqualified by the High court in 2019, a Division Bench Order retained his MLA post but without any voting rights.
“The conspirators are trying to divert attention of the public from a scam which is haunting the IUML”, the MLA added.
Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leader K M Shaji, MLA is facing a probe by the Enforcement Directorate in a bribe and disproportionate assets case.
