Role of women in economic development of India is indescribable: Dr. B. Vengamma

Tirupati, Mar 6 (UNI) Prof. B. Vengamma, Vice-Chancellor, Sri Devaraj Urs Higher Education and Research Academy (deemed to be a university), Kolar, Karnataka, said on Wednesday that the role of women in India's transformation into the 5th largest economically developing nation at the international level is indescribable.
Addressing the Symposium (Zoom meeting) on 'Empowerment of Women in 75 Years of India: Achievements, Challenges, and Opportunities'', organised by the Academy of Grassroots Studies and Research of India (AGRASRI) as part of the International Women's Day Celebrations, Dr. Vengamma said that to achieve complete women's empowerment, clarified that the responsibility of providing equal rights to women in our society in terms of education, medical care, financial support, appropriate place in decision-making, and their proper implementation lies with the governments as well as voluntary organisations, universities, and male society.
Ms. C.S. Rama Lakshmi, a retired senior IFS officer who has contributed significantly in the creation of self-help groups in the United State of Andhra Pradesh, said that there are about 50 thousand self-help group federations operating in India today, through which 70 lakh crores have been saved in various banks, and standing behind the economic development of the country is the permanent evidence and testimony of SHGs towards the empowerment of women.
