Border town of Gurez, dozens of other villages cut off due to fresh snowfall

Srinagar, Jan 3 (UNI) The border town of Gurez and dozens of other far-flung villages, including those near the Line of Control (LOC), were on Sunday cut off from rest of the valley due to slippery road conditions following fresh snowfall.

However, traffic was so far plying normally on three main roads in north Kashmir – including Kupwara-Keran, Kupwara-Machil and Kupwara-Karnah – even as the district witnessed less snowfall.

“Traffic was on Sunday suspended to Gurez, which is surrounded was Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) from three sides, and adjoining areas due to moderate to heavy snowfall overnight,” an official of Police Control Room (PCR), Bandipora, told UNI over the phone.

He said Razdan pass, connecting Gurez, Neeru and dozens of other areas near LoC with district headquarters Bandipora, received about a foot fresh snowfall overnight.

Meanwhile, a pregnant woman, facing serious complications, was airlifted Gurez Valley to Bandipora in a chopper on Saturday. The woman was later shifted to Lal Ded hospital in Srinagar for advanced treatment.

An official of Police Control Room (PCR), Kupwara, told UNI that traffic was plying normally to dozens of far-flung and remote villages, including Kernah, Keran and Tanghdar, as there was very less snowfall in the area so far.
