Srinagar, Oct 5(UNI) Security forces on Monday searched private vehicles, including cars and two wheelers, in the civil lines, Srinagar.
Similar searches were also conducted in other parts of the city to foil any militant attempt to smuggle in arms and ammunition into summer capital from outskirts, official sources said.
CRPF personnel posted in Lal Chowk area, the nerve centre of the city, were seen searching private vehicles today.
Vehicles were being stopped and occupants questioned before allowing them to go after properly checking their identity cards and other documents.
Two-wheelers were also being searched before allowing them to go. The identity cards of youngsters riding two wheelers were being properly checked.
'Though there is no specific input about militant movement, but we do not want to take any chance', security forces said.
Recently, Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh has said that ultras are taking shelter in the city after militant activities in other parts of the valley. However, he said, security forces are on alert to target the militants when they enter the city.
Three militants from south Kashmir were killed in an encounter by security forces in Batmaloo area of the city on September 17, when a woman also died in the shootout.
