Capt, Modi govts played cruel joke on poor, depriving them of housing scheme benefits: AAP

Chandigarh, Dec 4 (UNI) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday accused the Centre and the Punjab government of betraying the people living in ‘kutcha’ houses as their interests had been deliberately overlooked in terms of providing them housing at cheaper rates.
In a statement here, AAP MLAs Manjit Singh Bilaspur and Kulwant Singh Pandori said that the latest reports available confirmed that only 13 per cent of the poor people in Punjab had been given houses under the Prime Minister's Gramin Awas Yojana, while more than two lakh poor families living in ‘kutcha’ houses were denied the benefits.
They said that 70 per cent of the families belonging to weaker sections came from the Dalits and 30 per cent from the other categories living in ‘kutcha’ house, alleging that they were deprived of the scheme benefits owing to the anti-Dalit stance of the state and union governments.
