Khandwa, MP, Oct 12 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee President Kamal Nath said on Tuesday that the outcome of by-elections in the state would send a message from the electorate to the Centre’s Narendra Modi government and the state’s Shivraj Singh Chouhan regime.
“Measures such as Goods and Services Tax and demonetisation caused heavy losses to the country and the people. Citizens are still suffering due to those reasons. The level to which prices have increased hardly needs mention. People need employment and freedom from inflation,” he said while addressing a public meeting here in support of Mr Rajnarayan Singh Purni who is the Congress candidate in the Khandwa parliamentary by-poll.
Highlighting the achievements of his 15-month-long tenure, the former chief minister claimed that he waived farmers’ loans and took other steps in public interest.
“Mr Chouhan acts so well that he should go to Mumbai. During more than 15 years in power, he only made announcements and is still doing so. It should be understood that there is a difference between running a government and talking big,” the ex-Union minister said.
Targeting Bharatiya Janata Party state President VD Sharma, Mr Nath said that he became a parliamentarian when Mr Sharma had not even learnt to wear his underwear but now Mr Sharma is trying to teach him.
Mr Nath spoke about the accomplishments of the area’s late leader Subhash Yadav. Erstwhile central minister Arun Yadav, who is Mr Yadav's son, was among the leaders present.
By-elections are also underway in Prithvipur, Raigaon (Scheduled Castes) and Jobat (Scheduled Tribes) assembly constituencies. Voting is scheduled on October 30 and counting on November 2.
This was Mr Nath’s first public meeting in connection with these by-polls.
