Srinagar, Sep 16 (UNI) Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders on Wednesday attended a meeting called by youth wing for the first time since August 5, 2019, when the Centre abrogated Article 370 besides dividing the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories (UTs).
'We were not allowed to meet on September 3 when General secretary Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura had called meeting of senior leaders at party Headquarter, PDP Media Advisor Suhail Bukhari told UNI.
'However, today we were allowed to meet here as there was no choice for the government after Union Minister of State Home Affairs had informed the Parliament on Tuesday that no person is under house arrest in Kashmir', he said.
'Our senior leaders were not even allowed to leave their homes for the meeting on September 3 by the security forces and all roads leading to party headquarters were closed. However, this time they attended the meet today', he said.
The meeting was called by youth PDP president Waheed ur-Rehman Parray who had sought proper permission from the Divisional administration, he said.
'Though we could have organised the meeting without even informing the administration since it was being held indoor, still we approached the administration for permission', he said.
Mr Waheed in a letter to Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, seeking permission for the meeting recently, had said that since he too was under house arrest therefore police should be directed to allow him to attend today's meeting as he was not allowed to attend September 3 meet like other leaders.
He said the meeting deliberated on different issues, including present political situation in the Jammu and Kashmir besides organizational matters.
He said the meeting was presided over by Vice-President Abdul Rehman Veeri, General Secretary G N Lone Hanjura, youth president Parra and himself (Bukhari) and former MLA Bashir Mir.
