Lucknow , Sep 5 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh on Saturday witnessed the highest ever 6692 fresh Covid-19 cases in a day, taking the total to 2,59,765 cases.

The death toll too touched 3843 with 81 fresh casualties in a day.

The Nawabi capital, Lucknow, on Saturday crossed 1000 new cases in a day making it a top Covid hotspot of the country.
The recovery rate till now was 75.43 per cent and the fatality rate 1.47 per cent.
State additional chief secretary ,Health Amit Mohan Prasad said here on Saturday there were record 59,963 active cases in the state while the recovered patients were 1,95,959 which included 5141 people who were discharged from hospitals .

The official said, on Friday 1,48,274 sample tests were done and now the total Covid tests in the state has reached another milestone of 63,45,223 so far.

Mr Prasad said there are 30,848 positive asymptomatic patients in home isolation , which is over 50 per cent of the total active patients.
Besides, there are 2694 in private hospitals, 250 in semi-paid hotels and rest in the government run Covid hospitals.
Mr Prasad said under surveillance and contact tracing , over 3.14 lakh health department teams have reached 88,916 areas and have visited 2.14 crore houses and have checked and contacted over 10.74 crore people.
Meanwhile, Lucknow continued to be a top Covid hotspot of the country, when on Saturday, 1006 fresh cases were detected and the total active cases has gone up to 8213. The state capital also witnessed 18 casualties taking the total Covid deaths to 420.
Prayagraj witnessed second highest of 413 cases and one death, Kanpur city got fresh 362 cases while there were seven deaths while in Gorakhpur there were 206 fresh cases and five deaths.
