51-year-old man dies due to COVID-19 in Kashmir, death toll mounts to 82 in J&K

Srinagar, Jun 21 (UNI) A 51-year-old from Kupwara died of COVID-19 in Kashmir valley on Sunday, taking the death toll due to the infection in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to 82.



With this, 46 people have lost their lives due to infection in 17 days, and 67 people in 33 day in J&K, where the COVID-19 positive cases are nearing 6000-mark. Five persons -- 40-year-old woman from Srinagar, 80-year-old woman from Kulgam, another woman from Pulwama, 65-year-old man from Budgam and a Jammu resident -- died due to COVID-19.



Official sources said a patient, a resident of Rafiabad in Kupwara, was admitted to S K Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) on June 4 after he tested positive for COVID-19. “The patient, who was a case of post renal transplant, was to undergo Arteriovenous Fistula,” they said.



They said the patient suffered a massive heart attack and died on Sunday morning.



With this fatality, the death toll has risen to six in Kupwara. Srinagar is the worst affected district with 19 causalities due to the disease in the UT, followed by Baramulla with 13 deaths. Shopian stands at number three with 10 deaths, followed by Kulgam with nine fatalities. Six people have lost their lives due to the infection in Budgam and Kupwara, while five in Anantnag.
