LS Polls : Police & CAPF conduct flag marches in several districts of Kashmir

Srinagar, Mar 30 (UNI) Ahead of the Lok Sabha election, Police along with Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) on Saturday conducted flag marches in several districts of Kashmir.

The main objective behind this flag marches is to instill a sense of security and harmony in the society and to ensure free, fair and fear free election, police said.

The flag marches was carried out in Baramulla, Ganderbal, Shopian and Kulgam districts of Jammu and Kashmir and led by senior officers of Police and CAPF.

“Baramulla Police carried out flag marches in the district along with CAPF in view of upcoming Lok Sabha election to instill a sense of security and harmony in the society and to ensure free fair and fear free elections,” a police statement said.

Baramulla Lok Sabha constituency, which is slated to go to polls on May 20, during the fifth phase of the election, is the most sensitive due to its proximity to the Pakistan occupied Kashmir. The Baramulla parliamentary constituency encompasses three districts of Kupwara, Bandipora, and Baramulla and all of them share a border with PoK.

A senior BSF official today said that chances of infiltration from across the LoC increase during important events like the Lok Sabha election.

Similar flag marches have been conducted in Ganderbal, Shopian and Kulgam.

“Ganderbal Police today carried out flag marches in the District along with CAPF in view of the Parliamentary Elections 2024.
The Senior Officers of District Police & CAPF and Jawans took part in the Flag Marches which culminated at T-chowk,” a police statement said.

The flag marches was conducted days after a crucial high-level security meeting was held at the Police Control Room (PCR) Srinagar to assess and enhance the preparedness for the electoral process.
