Sultanpur (UP), April 9 (UNI) A murder accused was injured and arrested after an encounter with the police in the Kotwali Nagar area of Sultanpur district here in Uttar Pradesh, a police officer said on Tuesday.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Arun Chand said that on April 7, Vijay Narain Singh was shot dead and Anuj was injured during a party organised at the Pallavi hotel.
"Vijay Narain Singh was a co-accused in Dr Ghanshyam Tiwari's murder who was shot dead in September last year," he said.
He said that a case was lodged against Ajay Singh Silwar, Deepak Mishra, and Jayant Mishra. Ghanshyam Tiwari's wife Nishra Tiwari, his two brothers, his brother-in-law Vinay Tiwari and an unidentified person in connection with Vijay's murder.
The SP said that on Monday night, the police were tipped off that the main shooter Ajay Singh, was planning to escape to Lucknow.
"Acting on the tip off, a joint team of Kotwali Nagar and Bandhua Kalan police cordoned off the area. On being spotted and signalled to stop, Ajay opened fire on the police," he said.
He said that in retaliatory firing, Ajay sustained a bullet injury to his leg and was arrested. "The injured criminal has been admitted to the government medical college," he said.
