Lucknow, Aug 2 (UNI) Facing criticism over the kidnapping and death of a youth of Barra in Kanpur last month, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has recommended for a CBI probe on the request of the family members.
According to official sources here on Sunday, the letter of recommendation to the Union Home Minister has been sent by the state government to investigate the matter.
The family members of Sanjit Yadav, who was kidnapped by his friends and later murdered were demanding a CBI probe after several policemen including an IPS officer was suspended on the laxity to save the youth.
The victim, a 28-year-old lab technician was kidnapped on June 22, and it was reported that the kidnappers got Rs 30 lakh as ransom on July 13 even as the police had all the information.
But after the accused were arrested, they said that they killed Sanjit already on June 26 and threw his body in Pandu river. The body was yet to be recovered.
Altogether, 12 policemen including ASP Aparna Gupta, an IPS officer, and Circle officer Manoj Gupta were suspended by the state government.
The family members alleged that due to police incompetence, their son was killed even after giving the ransom and his body was yet to be recovered.
Police has arrested four of the accused identified as Gyanendra Yadav, Kuldip Goswami and Neelu Singh, who have disclosed the murder of Sanjit. One accused Ramji Shukla was Corona positive hence police could not interrogate him further.
Opposition political parties were up on their arms over the crime and were questioning the law and order situation in the state regularly.
