New UP Lokayukta to take oath tomorrow

Lucknow, Jan 30 (UNI) Justice (Retd) Sanjay Mishra, will take oath of the new Lokayukta of Uttar Pradesh here tomorrow. UP governor Ram Naik will administer oath to Justice Mishra at the Rajbhawan tomorrow evening at 1700 hours. Rajbhawan sources here today confirmed that the oath ceremony of the new Lokayukta would be held at the Gandhi Sabhaghar in the Rajbhawan tomorrow evening. Justice Sanjay Mishra was appointed UP Lokayukta by the Supreme Court on January 28 ending a six month long controversy over the names for the post recommended by the state government. Earlier On December 16, the apex court had made Justice(Retd) Virendra Singh the Lokayukta of the state but it was challenged and objection was also raised by the Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court D Y Chandrachud. Later, the SC recalled its order on the appointment of Justice Virendra Singh and on January 28 named Justice Sanjay Mishra as the new Lokayukta. Earlier, the state governor had rejected the name of Justice (Retd) Ravindra Singh thrice sent by the UP government for the Lokayukta's post. UNI MB SV RAI1215
