Mufti Sayeed wanted dignified homecoming of Kashmiri pundits: Mehbooba

Srinagar, Jan 23 (UNI) Claiming that former chief Minister (CM) Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was always distressed to see Kashmiri pundits leaving their homes in Kashmir, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday said the late leader was committed to their dignified homecoming.
Ms Mehbooba, also a former CM said during his first stint as J&K CM he initiated the process of their return by building a conducive atmosphere.
Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, Mehbooba said “ It always distressed Mufti sahab to see Kashmiri pandits forced to leave their homes. In his first stint as J&K CM he initiated the process of their return by building a conducive atmosphere. For him it went beyond rhetoric & he was committed to their dignified homecoming”.
She was reacting to a statement which reads “ Former J&K CM Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had laid out a plan for the return of Kashmiri Pandits. Unfortunately he passed away. We will work towards the return of Kashmiri Pandits: Defence Minister @RajnathSingh tells Navika Kumar on #FranklySpeakingWithRajnath “.
In early 90s majority members of Kashmiri pandit migrated to Jammu and other parts of the country following eruption of militancy. However, about 800 families stayed back in their homes alongwith their muslim brethren in Kashmir.
