Major haul of banned drug ‘Ketamine’ in Andaman Sea by Indian Coast Guard

Port Blair, Sept 21 (UNI) In swift sea –air coordinated operation Indian Coast Guard Ship Rajveer single handedly apprehended six Myanmarese personnel approximately 140 nautical miles East of Car Nicobar Island and seized 1160 packets weighing 01 kilogram each of banned drug Ketamine.
At about 0918 hrs on 18 Sep 19, a Coast Guard Dornier sighted one suspicious vessel operating east of Carnic Island. The Vessel was not responding on VHF. ICGS Rajveer sailed at 1550 hrs on 18 Sep 19 for investigation.
“At about 2120 hrs on 19 Sep 19, Rajveer detected the contact on radar. The contact was 140 nautical miles from nearest land, Car Nicobar Island. The vessel failed to stop on being challenged by the ship. The ship fired 15 warning shots in air and forced the vessel to stop. At 2300 hrs, the ship’s boarding party embarked the vessel. The vessel was found to be Myanmarese origin with 06 crew onboard,” Commandant Vivek, the Public Relations Officer of Coast Guard’s Andaman and Nicobar Circle informed reporters at Port Blair.
