NHRC Directs Odisha Chief Secretary to Submit compliance Report of Compensation

Kendrapara, Apr 25 (UNI) The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has directed the Odisha Chief Secretary to submit a compliance report on the payment of monetary compensation to a tribal victim of a forceful family planning operation.
The NHRC sought the compliance report along with proof of payment of monetary compensation of Rs. 1,00,000 to Ganga Durua, a speech-impaired unmarried tribal youth of Kosarbata village, who was subjected to a family planning operation forcibly without following due procedure.
The Commission also directed him to submit the status of his recanalization operation (to be done after obtaining consent from him) and as per due procedure within six weeks, failing which the Commission would be constrained to invoke its coercive power under Section 13 of the PHR Act, 1993, calling for the personal appearance of the authority concerned before the Commission.
