Low-weight & anaemic children, women decreases significantly in Bengal

Kolkata, Aug 23 (UNI) The number of low-weight and anaemic children under five years and women in the state are decreasing rapidly, according to a recent report by the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development.
The ministry came to the conclusion after analysing and comparing the National Family Health Surveys of 2005-06 (NFHS-3) and 2015-16 (NFHS-3), the official sources here today said, According to the data, the percentage of underweight children under five years of age came down from 38.
7 to 31.
5; the number of anaemic children also came down – from 61 per cent to 54.
2 per cent.
The percentage of underweight women in Bengal between the ages of 15 and 49 years decreased in the ten-year period from 39.
1 per cent to 21.
3 per cent, while the percentage women suffering from anaemia came down from 63.
2 to 62.
5 per cent.
When compared to the national averages too, the performance of Bengal is significant.
The report presented data collated from the NFHS-3 and NFHS-4 reports for rural areas regions separately, and in that respect too, Bengal fared quite well.
