Local Bodies Dept organises state level workshop cup exhibition of hand made products of SHGs

Chandigarh, Oct 15 (UNI) Punjab Local Bodies Department on Tuesday organized a state level Workshop- cum- exhibition of the hand made products of the Self Help Groups (SHGs) of poor women formed under Deen Dyal Upadhiaya –Nation Urban Livelihood Mission scheme (DAY-NULM) at Municipal Bhawan, Sector 35, Chandigarh. The workshop was inaugurated by Mr A Venu Parsad, Principal Secretary, Local Bodies Department.
It was disclosed by official spokesperson of the Local Bodies Department. He said that in his keynote address Mr Parsad, suggested ways and means to promote the SHGs products. He also threw light on the various market strategies following which SHGs products could attract the attention of the end users.
The major highlight of the workshop was the State Level Exhibition cum sale of SHGs products. Over 32 stalls of the Self Help Groups representing the various districts of Punjab were set up with various handlooms, handicrafts, snacks, handmade iron items, phulkari, organic ladoo, grains, bags, decorative items, silk products, and other hand-made products. Products of about Rs 1 lac were sold by these SHGs. The exhibition was inaugurated by Mr. Karnesh Sharma, Director, Local Government-Cum -Mission Director, NULM. He presented the progress of the Punjab State under DAY-NULM scheme and informed that 7,027 SHGs has been formed and 2,058 SHGs have manufactured various hand-made products. Mr. Ajoy Sharma, Secretary Local Government while addressing the workshop suggested that the SHGs will be formed in the service sector where there is a lot of scope for these poor women . Mr. Y.S. Awana, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India was the guest of honour at the event.
