Like moong, procure basmati also at MSP, demands Kiran Choudhry

Chandigarh, Oct 14 (UNI) Haryana Congress Legislature Party leader Kiran Choudhry today asked the state government to also mop up long grain varieties of basmati on the lines of moong from the mandis as the producers of such varieties of basmati are being forced to do distress selling and are getting much less than the MSP.
In a statement here, the former excise and taxation minister said while in 2013-14, basmati prices peaked to Rs 4,300 per quintal, this year the farmers are not able to get more than Rs 2,000 per quintal. A farmer sold his produce for as low as Rs 1,810 in Karnal the other day.
“If the state government can decide to procure moong at MSP, why not the long grain varieties of basmati”,she asked.

Kannur (Kerala), April 26 (UNI) Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan shared a word of caution for CPI(M) central committee member and LDF state convenor EP Jayarajan on Friday amid rumours of his possible leap to the saffron side, following a meeting with BJP leader Prakash Javadekar in Thiruvananthapuram.
The CPI(M) politburo member talking to the media after voting at RC Amala school booth at Pinarayi near Dharmadam, said Jayarajan should practice caution while choosing friends from the political opponent spectrum.
