Kerala: Intravascular Lithotripsy (IVL) angioplasty conducted in Govt Medical College Hospital

Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 21 (UNI) For the first time in a Government Medical College Hospital in Kerala, an Intravascular Lithotripsy (IVL) angioplasty was successfully conducted on a 63-year-old heart patient here on Tuesday.
The very complicated surgery was conducted at the Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College Hospital by a team of cardiologists led by cardiology department head Dr Sunitha Viswas.
The latest 'Shockwave Coronary Intravascular Lithotripsy' technology applying sonic pressure waves has been used to break up calcification that is restricting the blood flow in the vessels of the heart.
