Kerala : BJP ends hunger strike

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 20 (UNI) Kerala BJP has ended its 49-day-long hunger strike on Sunday following the closure of the Lord Ayyappa temple in Sabarimala.
The BJP launched the relay hunger strike in front of State Secretariat demanding the withdrawal of prohibitory order in Sannidanam, Ilavunkal, Nilakkal and Pamba and police restrictions in the temple.
However, the Left Government did not accept the demand and continued to ensure that the September 28 SC verdict is implemented.
Alleging that the Left Government was trying the break the customs and traditions of the centuries old temple, the BJP launched several agitations.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Sunday alleged that the BJP withdraw the agitation citing lack of public support.
Alleging the Sabarimala stir was a complete failure, the Chief Minister said Sangh Parivar organanisations were trying to polarise people on the basis of their beliefs.
However, Sabarimala Karma Samiti organised a meeting of nearly two lakh people in the City to protest against the Government's stand against Ayyappa devotees and thier beliefs.
