J&K Police cracks IED module, arrested five in Poonch

Jammu, Oct 7 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday claimed to have cracked the module involved in recovery of an Improvised Explosive Device from a woman by arresting five persons with arms and ammunition in bordering Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.
“Acting on an information received from BSF on September 29 about presence of some suspected person carrying an IED like substance for planting somewhere and endangering innocent lives, different teams were constituted to act swiftly and avert the incident,” Rohit Baskotra, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Poonch said.
He said that accordingly, sister agencies and ground sources were activated for timely action and upon this, further information was developed and corroborated by police team under the Supervision of Manish Sharma (Dy.SP Ops) that a bag containing steel box having an IED fitted in it kept by some unknown persons in Parade Park.
“Police teams along with Bomb Disposal Squad recovered the IED from the spot, which was defused and one lady namely Zaitoon Akhter, 35, resident of Qasba was apprehended and taked for questioning,” said the SSP.
He added that a case was registered and investigation started, adding, “during questioning she disclosed that IED was brought by her husband namely Mohd Azad following which he was arrested by the special teams.”
During interrogation he revealed that along with one person namely Qamar Din of Kirni, they were in touch with their relatives in Pakistan while his maternal uncle namely Bashir Ahmed alias Tickka Khan associated with LeT and reportedly is deputing persons who have exfiltrated to POK for subversive activities.
“Two more names (Najim Din alias Naja and Latief) living in Mangbajri camp POK, associates of Bashir Ahmed also came out in investigation,” he said adding that on the disclosure of Qamar Din, one pistol, two Magazines and 43 rounds were recovered in the presence of Executive Magistrate.
“All persons are involved in subversive activities and are the main handlers who are pushing explosive materials to harm Indian sovereignty and integrity,” said Baskotra.
He added that on the disclosure of Mohd Azad, names of two more persons namely Wajahat Khan and Kamal Din, resident of Kirni who were aiding them in carrying and transporting consignment upto Poonch were also arrested.
The cases under relevant sections have been registered and investigation is in progress, he added.
