Puducherry, Aug 15 (UNI) Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy hoisted the National Flag and inspected a guard of honour presented by the Puducherry Armed Force at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex, Oupplam here to mark the 73rd Independence Day celebrations in the union territory on Saturday.
This was followed by march-past by the police contingent. March pasts by all other continents and cultural programmes stood cancelled in the wake of CoronaVirus Disease (COVID-19) threat.
Meanwhile, Lt Governor Kiran Bedi hoisted the tri-colour atop the Raj Nivas to mark the occasion. Officials of the Raj Nivas participated in the function.
In her message on the occasion, the Lt Governor said that this is a day of happiness and gratitude, a day to express our gratitude to our freedom fighters and to the front line warriors, the doctors and health workers, soldiers at the border, our police and sanitation staffs, who are fighting COVID Pandemic.
Calling upon the people to adopt all safety measures, the LG expressed hope that Pusducherry will tide over the crisis and welcome the next independence day as a healthy and safe Puducherry.
