Basti (UP), Aug 12 (UNI) In the wake of Independence Day, vigil has been stepped up on the Indo-Nepal border, a senior officer said here on Friday.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Basti Zone, RK Bhardwaj, said: "Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) is maintaining a vigil on the Nepal border adjoining Siddharth Nagar district under Basti zone."
Bharadwaj told UNI that the district's border is connected with Nepal and due to the open border, a strict vigil needs to be maintained. "Security has been beefed up in view of Independence Day and every visitor is being monitored," he said.
He said that the villages adjoining the border are also being inspected by a joint team of SSB and police. "All the vehicles passing through the border are being thoroughly checked and the reason for their movement is being recorded on the register," he said.
The DIG said that CCTV cameras on the border are fully functional. "The police force has increased patrolling in the border village. All the police station in-charges and outpost in-charges have been directed to launch a campaign and take action against the smugglers," he said.
He said that in order to maintain peace and law and order on Independence Day, preventive action is being taken against the persons creating trouble. To prevent road accidents people are being made aware. Action is being taken against the illegal liquor traders under the Gangster Act," he said.
